bulrush weavings

"My mother in law tought me how to weave bulrush when I was 18. She showed me all the secrets of bulrush and everything I needed to take into account when braiding," says Ms. Jenica.

Until the 1990s she worked at the artisans cooperative "Delta" in Mahmudia. She remembers that back then they had so many orders she could hardly fulfill them all in due time. After a 24 years break she took up this craft again, now braiding various decorations and souvenirs for the local hotels and guesthouses. She softens the bulrush and places it on a last depending of the object to be. She makes shoes, boards, dish-holders, hats, little beds for newborns and traditional bulrush baskets.
